Hey my room is a 100 square feet room and I have a bed that weighs about 150 pounds in one corner of the room and some other furniter distrubuted in other places that prob combines to 140 so I was wondering if I can set up a power rack that will eventually be 700 pounds dead load weight in my room if I set it up and was wondering if I can set it up without it destroying my room floor which is a upstairs room and has carpet and is a house from 2006.

I don't think it would be a problem. In the corner of the room like that is the best spot to carry a load too. Bookcases loaded up can be very heavy and aren't a problem.

I'm looking at a functional trainer to put in my upstairs bonus room corner. It stands about 4.5ft x 4.5ft and 550 lbs. I know that's less than the 810psf but I'm more concerned about the static, concentrated weight of the weight stack. Are you saying I'll be fine even over time with the wood floor joists? I am wondering if that much concentrated weight will warp the floors? I'd love to add a functional weight machine to my home gym.

I would never put a heavy squat platform upstairs unless the floor was reinforced with concrete and steel. Way too risky. Better to keep in garage or downstairs in area reinforced.

Great article. We have a bonus room over our garage and have a treadmill, elliptical, spin bike, free weights, reformer, rower, and several smaller things. The room is FULL. But it's great. I've noticed that the walls are starting to show a few cracks. Our neighbor says that's just the drywall settling from probable the use of the treadmill, and that as long as we don't see a crack in the ceiling of our garage we are probably ok. What do you think? And who should I call to have it checked out?

Marlane, that's great you got everything in there! Most of that should be just fine. What kind of free weights do you have, how heavy?

It is great ! A spare bedroom is much smaller than my old house but I was able to fit my 220 pound weight stack cable system, elliptical, bike and free weights in the room and I shored the floors like you said to do . My daughter and future son in law were lucky to get all the other equipment that is commercial grade that I did not have room for . Thanks again !
